10 Acres of Potential
Once upon a time, there was a farmer and his wife who dreamed about building a life on their own few acres. They rented out a house and a bit of land but it wasn't their own. So in 2022 they found their future land and bought it. Just in time too! They had a farmhand on the way.
The farmer wants to develop the land into a silvo-pasture ecosystem with an overstory comprised with mostly nut trees and fodder crops with some fruit trees mixed in. So here we are in the wilds of Casper Wyoming ready to fulfill that dream.
We even brought over the compost from the old place. Soil is, perhaps the most valuable asset a farmer owns, though it is rarely listed on the balance sheet. We put a lot of work into that soil! Compost from our kitchen went in too. So did other peoples compost from our adopt-a-bucket program. Plus the chickens helped put their own fertilizer into it. In our short stay at the old place, we had managed to accumulate approximately 18 cubic yards of compost in various stages of completion. The dogs of course, only do one thing. Look cute.
The property had a quite bit of garbage on it but we're working on it! That old truck was quickly taken care of and the flatbed in this picture is our current hay trailer! Still needs a bit of work, but thats for another day.
It came with a shop and a shed. Perfect for people who have a lot of outside things or need to work outside. Wyoming weather is never very predictable. The wind is the worst!
It also had a house on it! Devon was unsure at first whether it was livable but it holds up fine. There is of course plans to build a new one in the works. That's Sophie by the way. You'll probably hear about her a lot.
A little animal shed was even up for the lambs we had at the time. The chickens had their own but they soon moved in with the lambs.
Since moving in we've downsized a bit and got rid of our lambs. The land isn't quite ready for them. So we're going to concentrate on our microgreens, gardening, bees, and building our farm up.
